| Okay, I need a poll on how we should make the character move. I was thinking we can make it so that if you press the left button, for example, you will walk to the left. But if you double tap the left button, you will run to the left. Does anyone think this is a good idea? | |

| Very good idea. Many professional games implement this, and it works very well. One more thing. There should also be a crouch button (most likely the down arrow key) that, of course, allows the player to crouch. However, while crouching, the character should move slower, therefore giving the player three different speeds to move, with just three keys: walk, crouch walk, and run/sprint. If you have any more ideas about the walking engine, throw 'em back at me, and I'll give you my feedback. | |

| I'd have to disagree with the double-tap run thing. What if the user does not double tap fast enough? In most games I've played, they run by holding shift and pressing the arrow keys. I find that a lot more convenient. | |

| I don't see how you cannot double tap fast enough. Nonetheless, we will make it so that you are given enough time to do it.
AlsoPenCover, I like your idea about crouching.

I find two things wrong with your idea. First, using the keys shift, control, or alt is never a good idea when developing a game. Those are used primarily by the operating system, and pressing them in game can lead to unwanted effects that may interrupt your game. For example, Windows XP has a feature called "StickyKeys" that activates when you press Shift 5 times in a row. When this happens, it takes players away from the game, but leaves the game running. This can lead to some major issues with gameplay. Second, even if we don't use shift specifically, with your control scheme the player has now only has a few fingers they can use to press other keys while running. Not only that, but they can only press other keys that are within range of the button they are holding down. By simply double tapping to run, the player has an entire free hand to press any button they like while they run, allowing for a lot more possibilities. And like Dan said, it's not hard to press double tap a button. If we absolutely need to, we can allow the player to control the time interval that the game uses to register whether or not it was pressed in time.
